The more I learn about raccoon dogs, the more sad and depressed I become about the fur industry.
In reading about the behavior of raccoon dogs, you see that they possess so many qualities we humans prize and aspire to. It’s a wonder that raccoon dogs aren’t more revered in world cultures.
If you’re a woman and dream of the perfect husband and father to your children, may you have a raccoon dog of a husband! The males accompany the mother before she gives birth, and takes care of the cubs afterward, and as family units, raccoon dogs stick together.
I will write more about all the animals caught up in the fur industry shop of horrors — it is a long list — but right now the raccoon dogs are really intriguing me.
In many ways we’re trying to model the approach of this campaign on the many admirable qualities of the species of animals who are victims of the fur industry. In this small way, we can perhaps give them a kind of voice through us.
If we can combine the intelligence and greatness of fox, dogs, wolves, bears, wolfdogs, cats, mink and so many other fur-bearing friends of ours, perhaps we can really win some kind of small victory on their behalf.
